Check out this week’s guest blog post from Ilyse Craft for advice on how to get back on track when the world turns upside down!

back on track

We’ve all heard expressions like, “You’re not alone”, “I’ve felt the same way” or “I know exactly what you’re talking about”. With the global pandemic affecting the world, and us all being on the same side of the issue, we can empathize with both the immediate and potential long term challenges.

As a Certified High Performance Life & Business Coach, I had a full roster when the world started to unravel.  Along with managing myself, my family and supporting dear friends, I have Clients and an Online Community to tend to. What I believe to be true is we are all experiencing a trauma. How we manage this, dates back to our origin. I, for example, get “scrappy”. I’m a fighter.

Human nature gives us a few choices in how we respond: Fight, flight or freeze.

Even though I float in and out of these stages, I tend to be a fighter. I am going to fight back, meaning I am doing business and have been busier than usual. There are times when I freeze with fear when I ask the daunting questions and I feel sick inside. There are times when I want to go into flight mode, and I go take a nap and that nap turns into more of a sleep! But my true nature comes through; that being a fighter.

I date this back to losing a parent as a baby and a whole host of other victories I had as a child. I see these as triumphs because I survived them, as have you. We have all made it through everything before this. Our track record is stellar. In fact, we clock in at a 100% survival rate of all things prior to this of managing our way through.

P O W E R M O V E # 1:

Make a list of All The Things you made it through in your lifetime: When I do this with my Life Coaching Clients, they are usually blown away by all they have endured and survived & even thrived through. It gives you a shot of confidence that you have the skills & know how to make it, even if the path doesn’t seem crystal clear right now.

For my Business Coaching Clients that feel uneasy about selling in this climate, we are looking at the difference between those that feel activated to lean in versus those that want to step away. What is it that each is telling themselves? Neither is wrong and both get to be right. Decide how you want this to go.

We can find every reason why or every excuse why not. We get to decide. Choose Wisely.

P O W E R M O V E #2:

Write a letter to your future self about what you did now: What will this letter say? Will you be giving yourself props, thanks & gratitude for what you did during this time to get you through? Get specific. Are you waiting? Are you creating? What are you doing now? Be the change in your life that will help you later. Do it now.

Do it Scared. But do it.

There is no right or wrong. There is no good or bad. The exercise is really powerful to take yourself out 3-6 months and look back.

My brand is Why Go Solo™. Whether it is with the help of a trusted friend, family member, mentor or Coach, doing things with the help of another for guidance and vision can make all the difference in the world in taking steps toward where you want to get to.
