How frequently should you post on social media?
It’s the question often asked by business owners, and a question which many experts have weighed in on. I have seen blogs, posts, and all kinds of infographics that show precise times to be active on social media, frequency of posting, etc.
My answer to this question starts with you. What is your schedule like? When is it convenient for you to be active on social media? What schedule can you maintain? You should post on social media only as frequently as you can maintain.
If you start out strong, posting frequently at all times of day, every day of the week, on every platform, eventually you will burn out. At some point you will have weeks when you are not able to maintain this pace. And you will feel beholden to it no matter how much post scheduling you do.
Start by choosing where you want to focus. Ask yourself what is a realistic minimum starting point for you that you can stick to over time. Do that. As time goes on, you can always increase – especially as you get more evidence of what is working for you. In the early days of your social media presence, if you have extra time in a day, it is probably better spent engaging on other people’s pages than on shooting out more and more posts on your own.
Sure, there are algorithms. Yes, you can go to the analytics of various platforms to see when your audience is online. But, this is your life, this is your business, and feeling like a slave to your social media schedule is a preventable situation!
